内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 This study explores the educational pathways of culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students at Japanese women’s universities through interviews with two first-year students. Although university education is becoming more common among foreign residents in Japan, the enrollment rate of students requiring Japanese language instruction remains significantly lower than the overall average. Semi-structured interviews conducted in March 2024 with Brazilian and Peruvian students revealed different paths to university admission: one progressed through Brazilian and Japanese language schools, while the other attended Japanese public schools and a Catholic girls’ high school. Both maintained their heritage languages at home, while developing Japanese proficiency through different routes. Mentor guidance proved crucial in their university decisions, and although being a women’s university was not their primary choice factor, both reported satisfaction after enrollment. This study reveals persistent barriers for CLD students and highlights the importance of mentorship, suggesting that women’s universities can provide supportive environments for minority students if they improve accessibility and multilingual outreach.
