内容記述 | This study used structural equation modeling to examine the influence of object relations on readiness for parenthood through independence in adolescence. The subjects for analysis were 262 university students. The participants completed questionnaires assessing their object relations, readiness for parenthood, and independence or self-support. It became clear in general, that lack of interpersonal relationships and high anxiety of being abandoned hindered readiness for parenthood. However, high levels of self-control alleviated that inhibition. It was also shown that tenuous interpersonal relationships reduced social interest. When gender differences were examined, independence was a mediator for women, but not for men. The women’s models were close to the overall models. In women, weak interpersonal relationships and high abandonment anxiety impeded parental readiness, but it was also suggested that parental readiness increased through self-control. For men, self-control alleviated weak interpersonal relationships and high abandonment anxiety. However, self-control did not affect parental readiness in men, though the hypothesis in this study was that independence would be a mediator. This suggests that men may not have an image of having a good family or raising children even if they become independent as an adult. For modern university students, building a stable relationship with a partner may be more important than independence as the first step toward adulthood and developing readiness for parenthood. | |||||||||
