Based on previous studies such as Ishii’s （2009）, a “sense of ibashos” is the way in which someone feels a sense of oneself and the feelings which are necessary in relationships with others. The subjects were university freshmen at a private women’s college（ N ＝ 181）. The results showed that, as regards family relationships, one should act as one wishes and be able to show emotion. In relationships with same-sex friends, it means being true to oneself and acting towards others in a pragmatic way. In relationships with opposite-sex friends, it means having practical emotional relationships. In relationships with lovers, it means being able to maintain one’s own interests.
