This study develops a scale to measure relationships between fathers and daughters, particularly focusing on how daughters recognize the parenting style of their fathers. Based on previous studies such as those of Sakai (2004) and Tanii & Kamiji (1993), 20 items were selected. In all, 120 Japanese female university students (mean age = 21.6 years) responded to the questionnaire, and the responses were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis. Based on the results of the analysis, 11 items were selected, and the validity of the factor structure was confirmed using confirmatory factor analysis. The items were groups into three factors: “acceptance, respect” “education for social skills,” and “over parenting". The fit indexes of the model were found to be good, and the scale was found to be useful for future studies of family psychology.
